Currently, a fundamental change is happening in manufacturing which transforms the practice of running independent manufacturing units to the implementation of networked cyber-physical systems. The digitalization of industrial production, often referred to as Industrie 4.0, lays the groundwork for more flexible and efficient ways of producing goods.

This new approach is often highly complex putting strains on operators and supervisors of such systems. On the other hand, new machine learning algorithms and technologies can help to develop new intelligent user interfaces that enable operators and supervisors to cope with the increasing complexity.

In this special session we want to bring together experts from the research fields of machine learning and human-computer interaction to present the ongoing research on intelligent user interfaces in the context of Industrie 4.0 and to discuss challenges and opportunities. We are convinced that the joint research of the two fields has great potential.

The papers will be reviewed by at least three members of the conference committee and by additional experts from the field. Accepted papers will be published in the Springer LNAI Volume – all instructions are valid for these papers as well. For submission please go to the authors area.
